Background of IPCC Good Practice Guidance In response to a request by Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) finalized a set of good practice guidance in May 2000 on uncertainty and good practices in inventory management. The report, entitled Good Practice Guidance and Uncertainty Management in National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC Good Practice Guidance), was developed with extensive input and participation from experts around the world. The IPCC Good Practice Guidance focuses on providing direction to countries to produce emission estimates that are as accurate as possible, with minimal uncertainty. In addition, the IPCC Good Practice Guidance was designed as a tool to complement the methodologies suggested in the Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines). |
