In the following section, exercises are provided for you to practice your
skills as a review expert on Energy Sector emissions from fuel combustion.
You should already have the inventory submission materials from six different
Parties downloaded onto your computer: Austria, Greece, Luxemborg, New Zealand, Slovakia, and Ukraine. (Click
here if you still need to download these materials.) The exercises below will
require you to utilize these materials to answer questions, as if you
were part of a real review team. In the course of your work on these exercises,
it may help to have many of the Parties CRF files, or National Inventory
Reports (NIRs) open on your computer at the same time.
You can then check your answer at the end of each question, where a discussion
of the correct answer is provided. In all cases, though, you should attempt
to answer the questions before clicking for “Help,” and you
should not click on “Answer” until you have formulated your
own answer. Doing so will only cause you to be less prepared for your
final exam on this training module.
Most of the presented exercises are directed at matters pertaining to
CO2 emissions from fuel combustion; however, some of these examples also
pertain to similar matters concerning non-CO2 emissions from fuel combustion.
This overlap stems from the fact that the activity data used for CO2 and
non-CO2 estimates are typically the same. The key differences between
CO2 and non-CO2 emission estimates relate to the disaggregation of activity
data according to technology and emission control classifications.
