D. Emissions from Manure Management

1. CH4 Emissions
The methodology for estimating CH4 emissions from livestock manure management can be summarized as follows:

  • Collect livestock population data (using single livestock characterization);
  • Use default emission factors or country-specific emission factors developed on the basis of manure characteristics [BO (Maximum CH4 producing capacity of the manure ), VS (Volatile Solid excretion rates), MCF (CH4 conversion factor)] for each significant livestock population (i.e., species, category, or subcategory) and manure management system type.
