Petroleum Refining (1.A.1.b)
Significant energy is used in the process of refining and
distilling crude
oil into secondary petroleum
products. The emissions resulting from the combustion of fossil
fuels related to these activities are reported here. However, this category does not
include evaporative emissions (i.e., fugitive methane emissions
from petroleum systems) or fuels used as feedstocks and non-energy uses.
- How did the Party collect activity data from petroleum
refining facilities?
- How did the Party account for fossil fuel feedstocks
and non-energy uses?
- How has the Party distinguished between emissions from
petrochemical manufacturing facilities and petroleum refining
facilities?
- Has a carbon mass balance approach been used to account
for all fossil fuel inputs and outputs (e.g., emissions,
fuel products, process energy consumption, feedstocks, and
other non-energy uses)?
