TOPIC 13: CO2 EMISSIONS FROM FOSSIL FUEL COMBUSTION

Manufacturing of Solid Fuels and Other Energy Industries (1.A.1.c)

Manufacture of solid fuels includes emissions from fuel combustion for the production of coke, brown coal briquettes, and patent fuel. Other energy industries include emissions from energy industries own energy use (on-site), not already covered in 1.A.1.a (Public Electricity and heat production), and 1.A.1.b (Petroleum refining). These energy industries include coal, oil, and gas extraction. It should be noted that combustion emissions from pipeline transport of fluids should be reported under 1.A.3.e. This category is not commonly a key category for most Parties.

  • How have fuel consumption activity data been collected from these industries?
  • What specific industries and activities has the Party included within this subsector?
  • Has the Party included all relevant “other” energy industries (e.g., gas liquefaction plants, oil shale extraction and shale oil treatment, nuclear fuel reprocessing, and manufacture of liquid and gaseous fuels from “in-situ” primary fuels)?
  • How has the Party handled emissions from coke ovens (e.g., how have residual losses of carbon resulting from combustion and carbon associated with coke oven gases been accounted for)?
  • How has the Party reported emissions from tars and oils used in coke manufacture (e.g., as non-energy or feedstock uses)?
