TOPIC 3: HIGHLIGHTS FROM IPCC GOOD PRACTICE GUIDANCE

Country-specific emission factors should be based on measurements that are conducted frequently and over a long period of time to reflect the variability of the prevailing factors in a country, such as season, geographic, and soil regions and different management regimes. The IPCC Good Practice Guidance provides information on the derivation of country-specific emission factors (see Box 4.1).

If country specific emission factors are used, their derivation must be transparently documented, for example, by being published in peer-reviewed journals.

If country-specific emission factors are not available, Parties may consider using factors from other countries with comparable environmental and management conditions.

For non-key categories or non significant sub-categories, default emission factors may be used but you should assess whether they are the appropriate ones to use given a Party’s national circumstances of climate region and development conditions.
